On this site you can get information about us, the lab, and about the research we are doing with fish and aquaculture.
For the past 4 years we have been developing genetically defined, growth-enhanced yellow perch broodstocks for eventual distribution to the aquaculture industry. Our broodstocks have been derived from 2 sites on the East coast and 2 sites in Wisconsin. Our research has also produced over 15,000 ESTs and 200 microsatellites for research on perch.
For the past 3 years we have been raising laboratory lines of 2 lake trout ecotypes: leans and siscowets. These lines are being used to study the basic physiological and genomic differences between lake trout ecotypes, and also for the possible aquaculture of siscowets to produce omega-3 fatty acids for the human fish oil supplement industry.
We have a new project starting-up this summer on the aquaculture of a South American characid, so stay tuned to our site for news in the future!
